Violence in the aftermath of the disputed Kenyan election of late December 2007 saw assassinations, arson attacks, and killings.  The genesis of the violence has been disputed. In particular there have been reports of organization and encouragement of killings, but whatever the precise balance between organized attacks and more sponatnious violence particular regions and cities of Kenya experienced waves of attacks against particular ethnic groups that have driven entire communities out of their homes.  In early 2008 Kenya therefore suffered from ethnic cleansing.  Attacks  in the Rift Valley often targeted Kikuyu.
